Music Monday- Girl Crush

Beautiful black and white rose with note on the petals

This song has been out for a few years, and I have to confess that the soulful, blues-y sound of it has always held my attention. When I was making plans for this week’s theme on the blog, it popped in my head as the perfect way to encapsulate Caroline Bingley’s envy for Elizabeth Bennet. Even if you’ve never felt this way about a man, we have probably all envied another woman (or man, if I have any male readers–speak up if you are because I don’t know of you!) at some point in our lives.

Lest the title confuse you, it’s been described as “about a girl obsessing over another girl because that girl stole her lover … On the other hand, it could also be about a girl obsessing over the girl who is with the man that she wants but has never had.”

I’ve got a girl crush
Hate to admit it but,
I got a hard rush
It’s not slowing down
I got it real bad
I want everything she has
That smile and that midnight laugh
She’s giving you now

I want to taste her lips
Yeah, cuz they taste like you
I want to drown myself
In a bottle of her perfume

I want her long blond hair
I want her magic touch
Yeah, cuz maybe then
You’d want me just as much

I’ve got a girl crush
I’ve got a girl crush
I don’t get no sleep
I don’t get no peace

Thinking about her
Under your bed sheets
The way that she’s whispering
The way that she’s pulling you in
Lord knows I’ve tried,
I can’t get her off my mind

I want to taste her lips
Yeah, cuz they taste like you
I want to drown myself
In a bottle of her perfume
I want her long blond hair
I want her magic touch
Yeah, cuz maybe then
You’d want me just as much

I’ve got a girl crush
I’ve got a girl crush
Hate to admit it but
I got a hard rush,
It’s not slowing down
