Last week, I was at the Younique Convention in San Antonio, Texas. For those that don’t know, I also run a side business selling makeup. I arrived at the convention exhausted and broken down. 2018 has been a very rough year for me with two moves in six months. I was having to put everyone else first and keep up with publishing too. I was barely treading water and felt like I had lost a lot of who I was. The entire convention was about empowering presenters, uplifting them, validating who they are exactly where they are. I felt like it spoke to my heart in every single session and break out group. One evening, we were fortunate enough to have Keala Settle perform for us. She did many songs and talked along the way–even gave a little motivational speech. You can really tell she has so much heart and despite her success she’s just as normal as anyone. I’ve lived under a rock and still have not seen The Greatest Showman or really heard “This is Me” before. I had heard it in the background of stuff and liked what I heard. However, when you’re in a convention setting and 12,000 of you get to be her backup singers…it was powerful and amazing. This is me. Bruises and all. Truly one of the most profound moments of my life. What has been one of yours?
Hide away, they say
‘Cause we don’t want your broken parts
I’ve learned to be ashamed of all my scars
Run away, they say
No one’ll love you as you are
I know that there’s a place for us
For we are glorious
I’m gonna send a flood, gonna drown them out
I am brave, I am bruised
I am who I’m meant to be, this is me
Look out ’cause here I come
And I’m marching on to the beat I drum
I’m not scared to be seen
I make no apologies, this is me
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh, oh
Well, fire away ’cause today, I won’t let the shame sink in
We are bursting through the barricades and
Reaching for the sun (we are warriors)
Yeah, that’s what we’ve become (yeah, that’s what we’ve become)
I know that there’s a place for us
For we are glorious
I’m gonna send a flood, gonna drown them out
I am brave, I am bruised
I am who I’m meant to be, this is me
Look out ’cause here I come
And I’m marching on to the beat I drum
I’m not scared to be seen
I make no apologies, this is me
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh, oh
(Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, oh, oh)
I’m gonna send a flood, gonna drown them out
This is brave, this is proof
This is who I’m meant to be, this is me
And I’m marching on to the beat I drum (marching on, marching, marching on)
I’m not scared to be seen
I make no apologies, this is me
I’m gonna send a flood, gonna drown them out
I’m gonna send a flood
Gonna drown them out
Oh
This is me
Never heard of her nor heard this song before – very powerful and it can speak for many of us. Thanks for sharing.

It really spoke to my heart. She had quite the wonderful story too but I don’t want to speak for her and get anything wrong. I wonder if she has an interview floating around on the internet.
