I just watched a few episodes of The Crown (on Netflix about the early years of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign, you’d probably enjoy it) and one of them was about Winston Churchill getting an official portrait done for his 80th birthday. He was quite upset that the artist chose to reflect reality instead of flattery. I would guess that Napoleon’s artists often flattered him instead. 🙂
