One of my mom’s best friends growing up had birds and an aunt that I lived with for a summer had a parakeet. I recently went on an animal adventure with my kids. They had a large red macaw and then an aviary full of budgies. Daughter and I loved it, but my son had a lot of anxiety from all the unpredictable movement. I’d love to have a bird and to teach it to talk!

I have had many parakeets over the years as pets and even taught one to speak certain phrases.

A single bird works best b/c they mimic each other if there is more than one and don’t have a mirror b/c they talk to their own image.
