I’m not sure if her hair was naturally curly. Wigs were standard still, just not powdered. And there were ways to curl hair (rags/papers and I think tongs). They had hat pins, but I honestly have no clue how that big thing would have stayed on at that angle. I wonder if it’s a big exaggerated by the artist.
Looks like she has lots of naturally curly hair. How does she keep that hat on?

She was an amazing woman. I highly recommend Amanda Foreman’s biography of this fascinating woman.

I did see the movie based on her life. Sad story.
